ABOUT US
We are David and Robb, a couple who have been traveling together for 30 years. David is an author, teacher, and librarian, and Robb is a nurse. We’ve lived in and traveled to over 85 countries and territories across the world spanning six continents.
Our method is simple – we work in the US, saving as much as we can, and then after a few years will head out into the world for as long as the money lasts. While we’ve taken a few short “vacation”-style trips abroad, we generally aim for longer sabbaticals of at least six months. Due to COVID changing up our timing, our current adventure which we began in December 2022 is on track to last until early 2027.
Our goal with Ten Degrees Warmer is to be an unconventional example of what is possible. Whether you are looking at an extended vacation, a Gap-Year, a sabbatical, or even are a retiree who wants to travel, it can be invaluable to find peers who are doing what you want to do.
We don’t expect anyone to imitate every decision we make – when you see how little we spend, you may not want to! 🙂 But we are putting our feet down in countries all over the world, and can help you answer questions about destinations, foods, SIM cards, visas, taxis, accommodations, safety, and whatever else we come across, so that you can draw your own conclusions about a particular destination.
Luckily there is no need to copy our choices. Travel is very personal, and everyone does it a little differently, and that is ok. If there is anything we’ve learned, is that there is very rarely a “right” way and a “wrong” way. Somehow everything always works out! But just as we have been inspired by so many other travelers, we realized our own crazy journey might motivate you to take a leap and do something you’ve always wanted to do.
Yours in travel,
David & Robb
